Teledyne FLIR and Gremsy Introduce AI-Enhanced Thermal Drone Payload

Teledyne FLIR and Gremsy have collaborated to launch a state-of-the-art drone payload featuring the Boson radiometric thermal camera module. This payload, the Vio F1, integrates advanced electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) technology into a lightweight, gimbaled system ideal for missions like infrastructure inspection, disaster response, firefighting, search and rescue (SAR), and public safety operations.

The Vio F1 is a product of Teledyne FLIR’s “Thermal by FLIR” program, combining the company’s leading thermal imaging capabilities with Gremsy’s expertise in gimbal design. Manufactured in the U.S., the payload complies with the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) and is ITAR-free, making it suitable for use in sensitive applications.

The payload boasts impressive imaging features, including a Sony 4K Block Zoom EO sensor with up to 240x zoom and a Boson 640 x 512 radiometric thermal camera with 8x zoom. These sensors work in tandem to deliver precise imaging for various scenarios, such as detecting structural damage or locating individuals in emergency situations.

Additionally, the Vio F1 includes a 2,400-meter laser range finder, essential for applications requiring accurate distance measurements. Operators can switch seamlessly between visible and thermal imaging or use both simultaneously, providing flexibility in complex environments.

AI-driven functionalities further enhance the Vio F1’s performance. The payload features advanced detection and auto zoom capabilities, enabling it to identify and track key targets like humans, vehicles, and boats. Automated adjustments ensure optimal image clarity, removing the need for manual intervention and streamlining high-stakes operations.
