New Addition to Schertz Police Department Enhances Crime-Fighting Efforts

In Schertz, the police department is making strides in bolstering its capabilities with the recent acquisition of a drone. The Schertz Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association demonstrated its commitment to supporting law enforcement by generously donating a $20,000 drone in the latter part of last year.

This cutting-edge drone is equipped with advanced features including a high-resolution camera, night vision capabilities, a spotlight for enhanced visibility, and a loudspeaker for communication purposes. Such technology provides the police force with valuable tools to effectively address various situations, ranging from crime scenes to locating missing individuals.

Police Chief Jim Lowery expressed enthusiasm about the potential applications of the drone, emphasizing its utility in crime scene investigations and search-and-rescue operations. To ensure optimal utilization of this resource, a dedicated team comprising two officers, two sergeants, and a Geographic Information System specialist will commence comprehensive training sessions next week.

The introduction of this drone represents a significant step forward for the Schertz Police Department in its ongoing efforts to enhance public safety and serve the community more effectively.
